American Red Breasted Robin
Sunset Over The Pedernales River
A Walk In The Park
Bad weather makes for amazing sunsets. This is a faithful reproduction of what the skies looked on that evening.
The visitor center at McKinney Falls State Park is illuminated by the golden light of the sinking sun. Above, dark clouds prepare to deliver on their promise of rain.
A Bend In The Road
An aircraft approaches a rainbow while taking off from ABIA in Austin, TX.
Both ends of a rainbow appear in the distant rain.
The Long Way Home
A long straight stretch of the road between La Paz and lake Titicaca, which can be (barely) seen on the right.
Flash Flood Warning
For the entire county. Rain fell hard for 30 minutes before it slowed down enough to allow me to get back to my car without getting soaked.
A Slow Day
A turtle basks in the small amount of sunlight coming through the clouds. Minutes later a downpour filled the pond enough to cover the stone on which the turtle was resting.
A turkey vulture flies by searching for left over food from all the park visitors.
Cypress trees line both shores of the Guadalupe river. A long exposure smooths out the surface of the river givind the impression of a solid surface.
Part of the Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin. One of the most beautiful and peaceful locations in the city.
Sunset Over The Falls
I didn't know what to expect when I tool this shot with the falls illuminated from behind. It turned out better than I expected.
Heavy rains this year have caused the Pedernales Falls State Park to live up to its name.
Mount Huayna Potosi
A view of the second highest peak of the eastern range of the Andes.
Storm Over Lake Titicaca
A heavy hailstorm moves across the lake. Strong cold winds were making my hands hurt. I didn't have gloves because I wasn't expecting the cold weather. I guess that's what summer is like at 12800 ft. (3900 m.)
Old Rusty Crane
Part of the once very active port of Guaqui, the remains of a crane rust away in the open. In the distance, those dark clouds aren't an idle threat. Within half an hour of taking this picture a hailstorm arrived.
Lost Maples Ponds
It was a cold and foggy day. Because of that, I was all alone in the park and there were no sounds other than my footsteps. After walking for a while I decided to open up my jacket's zipper. It sounded like a machine gun firing...
This is a flowing artesian well in Pedernales. After the last flood in May 2015 the small waterfall where I made this picture is gone, but the well remains.
...and a touch of green.
A close up of a small stream with algae growth.
A winter afternoon at Guadalupe River State Park.
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Enchanted rock is a large dome of pink granite sitting close to the city of Fredericksburg in Texas. The place is truly enchanting.
Enchanted Rock Trees
The area before the second fall.
Sunset At Pedernales
There are many reasons why I like this park, and this is one of them.
This is after flood waters did a lot of damage to the area. The tree, which I call the Sentinel, doesn't look so good from the other side, which is the direction from which the flood waters were running.
A Green Forest
The colors you see are exactly what the place looked like when I took this shot. I tried going again but I was never able to see the same colors at that location again.
McKinney Falls State Park
These are the second falls in the park.
Colorado River at Colorado Bend State Park
Colorado Bend State Park
Gorman Falls calcite formation. Protected area due to unique environment and the fragility of the formations.
A foggy afternoon at Lost Maples State Natural Area. One of the most beautiful parks in Texas. Since it's not near any major highways, the silence is amazing.
Pedernales Falls State Park
The Secret Pond
It's off the beaten path and not easy to get to, but worth the trip.
I really like the way the colors came out in this image. It was very cold, in spite of the sun.
